The Arch Bridge Beautification and Preservation Society is a group of concerned citizens interested in preserving and improving the appearance of the Chesterfield Arch Bridge.

Our goal is to create a “Blooming Bridge” as a unique and popular tourist destination and stunning gateway into the states of New Hampshire and Vermont by beautifying and preserving the 1937 award winning Most Beautiful Steel Bridge that crosses the Connecticut River between Brattleboro, Vermont and Chesterfield, New Hampshire.

The old and new Chesterfield arch bridges

The Arch Bridges of Chesterfield

Nearly fifty percent of New Hampshire’s Metal Bridges have been closed to traffic over the last twenty years because of changing transportation needs and inadequate preservation.  There is only 63 wrought iron or steel truss bridges remaining in the state and only 39 of these are still in use.  Increased awareness by local decision makers and state and federal attention to preservation solutions may help stem the tide of loss of these important links to the transportation milestones of the past.  Please join us in preserving this bridge once considered the most beautiful steel bridge in its class.
